SEO search engine optimization

Why it’s an issue:

If you use keywords too many times in the document text, search engines may tag your page for keyword stuf ng (a form of search engine spam), which can hurt your rankings in the search engines, as well as appear spam-like in the search results to potential visitors. See A Visual Guide to Keyword Targeting.

How to x it:

Edit your page to use your keyword less often.
Rand says: Ack! Why so much keyword repetition? You’ll probably annoy users and could even get your page classi ed as spam. Keep it clean, my friends (and check out this Whiteboard Friday for more).

Why it’s an issue:

To rank in search results, search engines have to be able to crawl and index your page. Before you can bene t from keyword targeting or other optimization techniques, you must make sure your page is accessible to the search engines.

How to x it:

Make sure this page is accessible to search engines: it returns HTTP code 200, is not blocking crawlers, does not use a meta-refresh to another URL, and does not have a rel canonical tag.

Optimal Format

Make sure this page:

Returns HTTP code 200. See HTTP Status Codes
Is not blocked with robots.txt, meta robots or x-robots protocol. See Robots.txt and Meta Robots.
Does not use a meta refresh to another URL. Even if you do not want this page visible to search engines, use a 301 redirect to permanently redirect to a new page and preserve all of the link equity from this page. For more information on redirection, see Redirection or Which Way Did He Go?
Does not have a rel canonical tag that points to a different page as the canonical page. See Canonical URL Tag the Most Important Advancement in SEO Practices Since Sitemaps.
